Oil & Fuel Metal on oil drain plug magnet

Just did the first 50 hour oil change on my 6500fwd and found the magnet on the plug had captured a good deal of metal. The material was the consistency of talcum powder and the magnet itself and the recesses around it were completely covered with it. I'd estimate it to be about a half teaspoon in volume. I suspect it is residue from machining and casting but would be interested in knowing if anyone else has noticed this during oil changes.

Yea Mike you aren't the only one. I saw the same thing. THis was at the 50 hr service at all three drain plugs. 1--engine oil 2&3---hyd/trany sump. Have you cleand the Hyd sump screen too?

I would consider it completely normal. If there were large chunks of metal........ that might be a problem.

This is exactly why you have a 50 hour major service, to hopefully clear all the nasties from manufacturing. I've seen questions here before asking if it is really necessary to change all those large quantities of oils and filters so quickly on a new tractor - this would seem to confirm that necessity.

I serviced a kubota for a friend last year and it had the same thing after 45 hrs of breakin period.
Its normal during the first oil change to see the metal dust particles.
