Anybody own or use one of these --- Hakmet - Forestry Machinery & Equipment

Sounds like a great concept; PTO driven (no smokin' hydraulic pump and faltering tranny) and it will "eat" trees and work everything up like a rototiller!

Don't know anything about 'em like cost, reliability, parts availability, deal network - Nada.

So, any feedback is appreciated.

I was also interested in these as rocks and debris do'nt affect them and they also spin bottom forward . The only trouble is with our soil conservation groups here in OZ . Because they work below the surface they disturb the topsoil and other vegetation which is frowned upon here .

FAE and Fecon makes something similar. We call them subsoiler mulchers here for reference. Not much of a market for them here for they take big H.P. and they get into the dirt so there are permits etc. Now they are cool and they are used for food plots the one's I've seen. The one I saw was on a 165 h.p. tractor.

Wouldn't need a permit up here for churning up the topsoil with the mulched material. (That kind of regulation seems "over the top" to me...)

After cruising their website - I noted that they make a 39" and a 59" model that can be used on 30hp and 40hp tractors. Curious though, that all models are only Cat II; not Cat I. Can't think of too many 30 and 40 hp tractors that are Cat II.

They're pretty heavy, too. (Guess that's the reason they're Cat II.)

I had a New Holland TN65 that was 40ish hp an it was cat II...but didn't run a meri with it...the only Meri I've seen was on a huge Fendt bi-directional tractor...talk about a sweet set-up...drool drool drool

This is a photo ive had on file for a while , they are a big chunk of iron . I too think the laws are over the top . Once the material was mixed with the soil it would be a perfect enviroment for new selected vegetation . Big rain that could cause soil run off is allways a possibility . I think common sense and carefull timing to limit the concerns is all you can really do . I was also wrong about spinning bottom forward as the picture clearly shows otherwise . I was shure i saw a picture of one with the points facing forward from the bottom , must have been when i gave up sniffing glue .

A quick look on the web site gave me the idea that they make reverse-rotation (counter milling..?) crusher's. They also build 'em with the push bars mounted on the back (just like the SS units) so that you can back up to trees and bend 'em over and shred 'em into chips.

Either front mount or rear mount.

The site lists them for grinding stumps. No mention of size of tree (diameter) or stump size limits.

A neighbor of mine has one. He has an M (90+ HP) for it since it uses a lot of hydraulics. I haven't seen it in use but I have seen an pulverized concrete foundation left over after he used it. Basically, it just pulverized the concrete down into the ground.

It appears to work very similar to the Skid Steer Forestry Mulchers that you see mentioned here.

Looks like a good tool if you have a tractor that can handle it and don't want to invest in a Skid Steer.
