Anybody got a Ford that requires Mercon SP transmission fluid? Only place I can find it is at the dealer. Drive out price $5.05 per quart /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The list price is actually $6.54 per quart /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The counter sales guy cut me a break for buying a case along with my pick-up screen and filter element. Still, what a suprise that was!

Anyone know who manufactures this for Ford and if it can be purchased elswhere for less?

I'll see what I can find out for you about who makes it, I know BP Castrol has been producing some of Fords fluids. The screen in the pan doesnt need to be changed though. It's just a screen, the filter should be a cartrige type near the cooler.

Thanks Greg.

True, its just a screen, but the old diesel mechanic in me just can't get past the thought that particles get caught in screens and that they at least need to be looked at occaisionally. Plus you have the pan magnet, which was coated with the graphite-fine clutch shavings that needs to be cleaned. There were some particles in the screen, which over time could build up to the point of restricting flow. It is a super-fine mesh screen, not far removed from filter media.

Also, the cartrige filter is set up as a bypass type filter, and from what I have read it only filters about 10% of the tranny fluid. One thing I do like about the set up is the oil drain plug in the tranny pan. What a concept! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

true, it does just get 10%... just wash the screen next time, save a little money....

The plug is great, I put one on my '94 to avoid dropping the 8-10qts all over my floor..

Whoever would have thought of that idea of putting a drain plug into a transmission pan? What a novel and new idea... I wonder why no other manufacturers have caught onto this idea. I can see this as a wonderful advertising campaign for the advancement of sales of Ford products. Ever wonder why they removed them in the first place???? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

$$$$$$$$$

It all revolves around $$$$$.

Unless it ends up being environmentally pushed, then it becomes the cheapest way to meet the EPA.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
