Update:
I ended up using the diagram I posted earlier with a weather proof push button. The R11EA $30 module I ordered had a configuration that used a 12 volt+ to activate the glow plug indicator for which Mahindra uses ground. It does activate the glow plugs while turning the engine(with no indicator light) over but does not preheat the glow plugs. It could be used to build the manual system I posted since it uses the same relay and has the same connectors.

I want to thank everyone for the information and help you have given me. I learned a lot from you while doing this.

Nice write up. I think my 1538 has a similar issue. Had no problems starting last winter. We had a pretty good snow this year and I got my Razr with a 6' snow blade stuck in the driveway. Went to start the 1538 and while it spun over quickly, motor would just fire occasionally on one or two cylinders and grey/white smoke came out of the exhaust. Tractor finally started when temp got above 30 the next day.

I would have thought that the ECU would have been smart enough to detect an issue with one or more glow plugs and throw a code. Guess not. Heck, my 06 GMC tells me which glow plug(s) have failed.

Got some cool weather out there now, when it warms up in a day or so, I'll have to check out the glow plugs on the 1538.

The reason it does not throw a code is because it has no connections to the main ECU. So, the main ECU thinks it is working even when it is not.
