Backhoe Mcgyver attachment anyone?

I am first trying our your site here, My name is Richard and I currently have a tc 35d tractor I love, have a Grapple for front root rake,bucket and forks. No back hoe but I do have the pto in back with the arms to use a landscape rake and I tow the chipper or move the trailer easily with the receiver on back. My questions are this.I am looking at upgrading to more lift , more power more attachments. Have my eyes on a Yanmar CBL40 uses 550 hours pretty good looking powerful machine. This has the impressive backhoe but no arms for the back 3point hitch. Does anyone know if this is wise to be thinking if I welded a receiver on the back of the backhoe bucket to put on the ball to tow the chipper at times into someones yard or to move the trailers around instead of putting the ball on the front bucket and drive the chipper backwards. Also does anyone think this is a good upgrade selling / trading my tractor for around 13K paying 12k to upgrade to this cbl40. Any comments thoughts would be appreciated. I am looking to put wide turf tires on the machine, but dont want to do it twice, so buy the right tractor first them get the ground friendly tires! Richard.

Can't say much on most of your questions, but a backhoe does not handle the stress of trying to pull a wagon from the bucket area, up the arm, down the boom, and through the frame of the backhoe. That puts a lot of stress on all your pins in sideways directions that the hoe really isn't so good at handiling. Anyhow, a compact or small 3pt style backhoe....

I wouldn't do that.

Your chipper must be on a trailer, not a 3pt?

It sounds like you like the tough, he-man, ground ripping tools on the tractor - turf tires don't seem the right choice for such opertions, you will be giving up a lot of traction?

Not familiar with the Yanmar CBL40 other than I know it is a designed from the ground up backhoe tractor similar to the Kubota B26. Maybe you can check with Yanmar and see if 3 ph can be installed if you remove the back hoe. I dont know if it is a QA type like the Kubota B26 or more like a smaller version of the Case 580. The Kubota B26 is QA and the hoe can be removed in about 5 minutes and the lift arms installed in another 10 minutes or so and you have a tractor with FEL and 3 PH for using bush hog or other attachment.
Unless you have use for a full time backhoe and can justify the use for not doing anything else with it, I would look at other options if the Yanmar cant be converted.

I just looked up the spec on the Yanmar CBL 40 and they do have an optional 3 point hitch available. Check with your local dealer for final cost depending on how your chosen tractor is set up it could be just a matter of buying the lift arms ball and socket and linkage to hook to the upper control arms to having to buy the upper arms also which could add substantially to the cost. But what the heck whats another thousand when you have laid out $25K for the tractor.
You would be getting a substantial increase in performance over adding a backhoe to your present tractor for $8K.
Are you sure the present owner doesnt have the 3 point hitch to go with it?

I think if I were you and needed a backhoe, I would go for the trade and get a real backhoe and then order what is needed to add the 3 point hitch. You would still be in the same shape though with regard to pulling you chipper. I dont think you would hurt your backhoe by pulling a chipper with the bucket as long as that is all that you pull with it. You could fix your ball on it where you have the backhoe full up and locked into place which would put less strain on it and put it closer to you. Might even be able to bolt on a quick attach trailer hitch to the dipper stick to pull your little trailer.

I see that the PTO is also an option. IF the PTO is not on your used CBL40 then you might be cheaper to buy new than to get the used one for $25K then add PTO and lift arms. Just have to confirm what all is on the used one and what the additional parts will cost, compare that to a new one and go from there.

I have a dk 45 with a rhino 95 c backhoe with subframe . The key word here is it is mounted to a subframe not a 3 point . I would be leary pulling anything with a backup and 3 point it would bounce around terribly . But with a subframe and the boom locks in place to take the stress off the cylinders you could easily pull the chipper I routinely pull 500 to 1000 lb logs with mine

You guys are great! All the responses thank you, I mainly use the machine for my Tree service, which is mostly on customers lawns, up a bank, in the back yard and many times have the challenge to remove all the wood, thus the Tractor.... Ihave been using the industrial tires and they really tear up and leave good footprint on lawns especially when having the rootrake graple picking up wood front the front adding so much weight so we have gotten used to bringing the ground mats, sometimes up to 30 4x8's and that just sucks. So wider turf tires I have been checking on from a company Pomps tire, who make the rims and tires to accomadate your machine, problems is there 5kbucks. But when you leave no footprint tire marks/ruts on lawns, you have happy customers. So make sure you have the right tractor first and buy tires only one time. This is my thinking.open for suggestions.. The CBL 40 is set up withthe backhoe solid to the frame, can be disconnected in 5 minutes and has the 3pt pto set up but have to buy the arms. So the machine has what it takes, but seems to me from all the posts that I might be able to weld a receiver on back of the hoe bucket as long as keep it locked into place to tow the chipper / trailer, by the way this chipper is on single axle and is an 8thousand lb unit. If I buy theis machine , I dont want to skrew up the hoe sideways loading by towing? So other options would be when i know Imnot using hoe, take it off put on 3 pt set up there we go.. or weld a set up on the front bucket and tow backwards? in any event i am still conteplating selling my NewHolland TC 35d and buying the upgrade to the YanmarCBL40 with the backhoe for an aditional 12k? does anyone see that being unreasonable?
