I have an 8 year old Morton 42 by 60 Morton bldg that I might want to insulate. It's on a six inch concrete pad with a vapor barrier and the fiberboard roof "insulaton" to prevent condensation drips. I have two gable end 17 ft sliding doors. It has the truss roof with the high-clearance spacing that gives the base of the truss a shallow "V" effect. I have soffet and roof vents and only a few mice to chew on things.

I am debating insulation and can only figure maybe 2 1/2 inch foam panels in the side walls and maybe 5" or 7 1/2" foam for the ceiling? I figure to just put foam panels over the doors or maybe in insualted blanket for the winter? Toss in a woodstove with a side exit and I'm good to go? I do have 100 gallons of clean waste oil and hydraulic oil per year as well and that could be an option. Fiberglass doesn't sound appealing from a rodent standpoint?
I don't want to heat to 70 degrees but it would be nice to have a warmer place to work for a few weeks or months. What do you think materials would cost?

This is an impulse thing so I have only searched a little and got confused. I would do a first-class job if I do it. Any advice would be appreciated.

sixdogs, have you contacted Morton buildings themselves to give you an estimate? You could have them install it or do it yourself. When I built my Morton I purchased the wall insulation directly from them, picked it up at their manufacturing facility and installed it myself. It may not work for you as they use rolled batts of fiberglass insulation. And you know with Morton it ain't cheap!!!!!!

Do you recall the insulation cost and the time to install? How does it work to heat and how do you heat it? How did you do the ceiling?

I'd have to look it up to see what I paid for it. I bought it this past summer. Right now I do not heat the interior. That will be down the line when I get to that part of the project. Ceiling is not done yet. I'm in the process of installing plastic on the ceiling to keep some of the cold air out. The walls are just about completed, I used Morton's insulation then covered with OSB.

sixdogs, I found the receipt for the insulation. I bought it in Dec. 2007, I paid $245.00 per roll of fiberglass insulation. The rolls are precut to fit in between the posts of the Morton building. The insulation is 6 inches thick, 86 inches wide and 40 feet long. FYI, very heavy but works great.

sixdogs, I forgot to mention that the five rolls of insulation weigh 720.9 pounds or 144.08 pounds each.
