Maybe a little too much weight?

I went to the local rock quarry to pick up some rock for a few french drains I dug over the weekend. I needed about 5 tons and thought I would be fine as long as they loaded the rock towards the rear of the trailer. The loader they used, I am not kidding it had a bucket on it almost as big as my truck! The flat part of my trailer is 15' long and the bucket was darn near that wide. So needless to say, the load was not distributed at the back of my trailer. I thought at one time I could see daylight under my front tires.

I once hauled 1800 lbs of crushed rock in the bed of a Datsun 1300 pickup (empty weight 2200 lbs.) I also once hauled 3700 lbs of scrap iron in the bed of my Dad's F150 (he reamed me over that one). It took a while but I got older and wiser. It's really dangerous to drive with the front wheels off the ground. :laughing:

It couldn't hurt to hang a plow off the front plus around 1000 pounds.

I just noticed in the last photo! even the pups think "dads done it this time" look on their faces, or "you aint really gunna show this to anyone"!!

Also I agree with HHR, a 1000lbs on the front to hold it down good. With a bent frame you wont notice it next time!!

I like to keep the front wheel off the ground as much as possible on my dirt bikes.

Should have had some dumped in the front of your pick-up bed. Would have helped hold it down better.

If I ever go get that much rock again, I will be a little better prepared. If I would have taken a shovel, I could have redistributed some of the rock towards the back of the trailer and got some of the weight off the tounge and then I would have been ok. Or, next time I will just pay the neighbor to go get it in his dump. I was just trying to save the $75 haul fee.

When I weighed on the way out, I was just under 24K lbs for the weight of everything. Surprisingly, between the truck brakes and trailer brakes, I was able to slow down rather easily. I had never heard my desiel work so hard, I had a couple of pretty good size hills on the highway to get up. It actually has to kick down a couple of gears.
