Took a few minutes to drive around the property today (and get the hour meter up to 1 :cool2: ), check the new digs out, make sure it all works, etc etc... and discovered that while comfortable, this new seat design seems to be flat out terrible to opperate, or mine needs to be lubricated and/or adjusted..

when it locks 'up', it doesn't seem to really lock in a positive feeling kind of way (not the way my 28 latched in on the back side), and getting it to turn around.. well.. that required far more violence than I imagine it should. Unlike my old 28, there's not two separate (I don't think, that could be part of the problem :ashamed: ) mechanisms at play... I used to hit the bar in the front to unlatch it and flick it up, then bump the handle on the side to spin it around.

with the 26 it appears, you grab the tab in the middle to raise it up (and it uses some sort of spring-lock thing) but I'm uncertain if you hold that while trying to rotate it or what. it didn't seem to matter, and it almost got stuck 90 degrees from forward.

I'm about to skim the operator's manual, but poking around there was nothing very obvious about how it should operate compared with the older version. :confused3:
the mechanism also feels a lot cheaper (not saying it is, but it certainly feels that way). Its kinda nice that the seat flips forward tho.

I too had trouble with my seat when I first tried to turn it around. I kept turning it the wrong way. I had to look in the manual to figure it out! It is kind of a pain to bring it all the way up then rotate it.

Looked at the manual over coffee this morning (shudder. manual. geez, gettin' old), and it (theoretically) works as I imagined it should.. hit the middle lever, raise it up while rotating counter-clockwise and it'll settle down backwards when it's spun around.

So I gotta get in there and mess with it because mine took the force of gawd to get it to turn once it hit 90 degrees

Try raising it up 1st , rotate, then set it down. Mine rotates pretty good, the pain is getting it to stay in the full up position while turning. Think it could have been designed better. First time I tried turning it I was on the right side of the tractor and couldn't get it turned. Now I always do it from the left side and it seems to work alot better.

As tonka states be on the left side and lift the seat up ALL THE WAY. Then rotate. That being said I feel it is the shitiest design I've ever seen!! I struggled with mine forever! YouTube, the manual, the dealer ... Nothing made it clear. You have to find the sweet spot and it will work. But still a horrific design. Also you are guaranteed to break wire under the seat. I think I'm on splice number 4 and there's not much wire left. I will just end up jumping it out as others have suggested. It's a good tractor but the seat is awful

yeah. I've gotten one smooth transition out of it, and gotten hung up about a dozen times. I need to disconnect that switch and jump the harness, it's already pulled the grommet out of the bottom plate once.

That's really a pretty aggravating thing in light of all the other great things they updated on the 26.

have new max 26xl... having the same seat issues... what does that wire that connects to the bottom of it run?
I also think I broke it

the wire should be for the operator sensor (weight switch). you can jump it to bypass that if you don't mind not having that safety aspect (and really, you have to clutch in to start it anyway so it's probably not a big deal). I will probably end up bypassing mine as well, I can't imagine that harness setup lasting long under the best of circumstances.

I think I already crushed it... what's the best way to jump it?
thanks

just tie the two wires together where they go back into the harness
