The cover is a rattling sound, I have had to reposition the cover a couple of times, but the rubbing sound is clearly not the same sound, it is metal on metal rubbing unlike the shaft cover. I just got a parts breakdown from the manual, no zerk. Looks like I'll have to pull the pin and grease it up good and check the bushings.

I found the damned zerk. I can't believe I missed it. It is dead center very high on the axle assembly. I am in a wheelchair so I couldn't get my head down low enough to see it, but when I got on the floor I found it and greased the heck out of it. It still makes a creaking sound from time to time, but it is substantially better.

My old Ferguson manual specifically said not to grease the pivot pin. It said the grease would hold dirt and wear the assembly quickly. Sure made it squeek a lot.

That makes sense, but it is designed to grease, and I have to tell you, the sounds before I greased were horrible. It is so much better now than before. I hope it isn't a design flaw having a Zerk.
