matching valves to pump

Hey this is my first post any where. I have a farmall super c and im wanting to build a 3 point hitch for it. I also would like to keep the hydraulic system it has plus run two more cylinders for the 3 point. My question is do I need to match my valve to the pump on the tractor or will any valve work?

I have a used two way valve but the inlet and outlet ports are bigger than the ports on the tractor. Is that a problem or can I just get some reducer fittings?

For a simple answer. If the valve is rated for the same or greater flow than your pump, yes you can use it. But are you hooking it into a power beyond set up? is you system a open [assuming it is] or closed. Is the valve set up for open or closed, does it have power beyond? Lots of thing to consider to do it right. CJ

What is the difference between open and closed system? I plan on blocking off the BYD port till I need it for something eles.

Open center hyd system fluid is flowing all the time, and all valves have to be in series.

There is accomplished by a gear pump.

Closed center hyd system probably has a variable speed pump to supply fluid on demand. Some pressure is held at the input of each valve in the closed center hyd system.
