Hello all, I have been browsing the net for days now trying to find information on a Massey Harris 50 gas tractor. I am really close to buying it, there is just one hang-up I have that I would like to get an answer to. Of all of the sites I have looked at, this one seems to have the most knowledgeable members and answer excellently to questions, so I am happy to be a new member here.
My question is this, the MH 50 that I am looking at has power steering, a gas engine, 3-point hitch, an aftermarket loader (which is really solid) and 540 pto. The problem I have is that the FEL runs off of the pto. Is it possible, and what would it entail, to use the built in hydraulics on the tractor so as to free up the pto? Is the stock pump big enough, would I need to buy a different one, if it is big enough, what would I have to do to add two sets of remotes, etc? I was raised on a dairy farm, so I am no stranger to tractors and fixing them. I am comfortable doing any type of mechanical work, I am basically looking for someone who knows more about these specific tractors to tell me if it wouldn't be a good idea to use the stock hydraulics or if there is anything else I should know that might make me pass on this tractor. It is beautiful, a little surface rust, but no pitting, metal is all super straight, just a nice looking tractor that I would really like to have, but the pto thing is an issue.
