Massey GC1700 DL95 Operation

Greetings,

My GC1715 manual says one thing . . but my efforts say something else. So is it my operating technique is wrong or something else ?

My DL95 front end loader I want to put in floating mode. Seems simple enough according to the GC1715 manual . . you push the joystick forward all the way and it goes to float. Except when I do that it goes down to groundvand causes the front wheels to lift off the ground.

So what's the story . . anybody have success putting their dl95 into float mode ?

I'm all ears because it would make snow removal alot easier lol.

Push harder. There should be a "click" you can hear and feel. When i first test drove one i wondered the same thing -/ then the salesman reached up amd slammed it foward.

Also once you have pushed past the click you should be able to take your hand off the stick and it will remain in float

Axle, I had the same problem on my tractor. Ray66v helped me out... You will need to snap it into float by pressing the joystick forward quickly. You will think the handle will break/bend before it snaps into float.

Agreed. You must jam it surprisingly and uncomfortably hard, forward, for float mode to engage. I both cringed and did it several times this past weekend.

As said, if you are lifting the wheels off the ground, you are only half way there.

It will go into float, without lifting the wheels. But, you have to learn to do it quickly, before that happens.

You can avoid dropping the machine on the ground, with practice.

Try this: Push up on the lever, against the stop, hold for a second, and then, push like you want to go through it.

Try getting the backhoe into float mode, it's really hard.

Go to youtube and search "Massey Ferguson 1700 float mode". I made this video, but I guess it doesn't work for some folks.

I will try it tomorrow. The one video on you tube showed it with the unit just in idle mode and with a bucket angle at 30 or 40 degree angle. Obvously float would be in a bucket in flat position.

Apparently the suddeness is required because it requires bypassing hydraulic mode and releases the hydraulic pressure.

Its funny . . The gc1715 manual shows where float is supposed to be . . But the dl95 manual doesn't seem to show float mode exists.

Anyway . . Tomorrow I'll thoroughly investigate the directions supplied here.

I take it float mode is gravity based.

AxleHub- I wanted to chime in on the velocity/rate/suddenness/ ... "Speed" factor that has been mentioned in a few places regarding float mode. I do not think the speed of the lever has anything to do with engaging float. You could push the lever very very very slowly and it would still go into float mode as long as there was enough force that was being used to get past the detent.

Had a good chance to do snow cleanup today. Lots of thick packed snow on a 200 foot concrete driveway. Learned how to use the float fu ction on my dl95 fel for the massey gc1715.

The flat process really helps on all my uneven and sloped concrete areas. I also discocered how I could adjust bucket positioning while still in float mode.

Good stuff.

And putting it into float mode wasn't hard at all once I knew what was needed to be done. Easy. Wush the manual explained it better.
