Any way to repair the damage to the rod? Could make a new rod if we knew how remove the piston from the rod.

The rod could be replated. Allen Machine in Banning, CA does a very reasonably priced job. Something like that is probably $75.
Is it not available? What model?

From the pic looks like the rod end is swaged to the piston.
A hydraulic shop could chuck it in a lathe and take the swag off then undercut the piston to accept a lock nut this would allow a new rod to be made.
