According to several sources the lower shaft is supposed to come out the front of the transmission in order to lower a gear which in turn allows the upper shaft to be removed. I am having no success in getting the lower shaft to come out, even to the point of using a slide hammer to try and get it to move. If you have any experience with this repair I would appreciate any advice. Thanks, Red

You have to split at the back as well.
The lower shaft pulls out to the back then that gear go down.
Then you remove the top input shaft and replace those seals.

Thank you for the response. It appears that there were two different models on this, there is one design that would come out the front, that is what my service manual shows. There is another style which i have in my tractor and as you state, it has to come out the back after the tranny is removed from the rear end.
Again, thank you for your response, Red
