Hi,

I managed to remove the filter / strainer from the left hand access hole. It is full of sludge. Is a soak in diesel the best to clean it with?

Clean it with whatever you have on hand - diesel, WD-40, brake cleaner, carburetor cleaner, whatever. The goal is to get the sludge out.
