Hello all. I,m new to this forum and have a hydraulic issue with an mf 250 tractor which was given to me last year. The tractor in question had been experiencing slow lift on the front loader and also the back arms. Also when I increased rpm the lift would drop. I drained the hydraulic fluid which was milky in colour cleaned the lift pump filter and filled with new fluid. The hydraulics worked after this service and I was able to top a field before the hydraulics failed the next day. Recently I have started working on the tractor again and I have drained the fluid, flushed the diff housing, fitted a new lift pump filter, new fluid. I can now lift the 3 point hitch up and down but when I attach my plough I need to increase rpm to get any lift and any implement heavier will not lift at all. I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems with there 250 and can give me some advice on what to do. I have never worked on a tractor previous to this but have worked on many engines vehicles ect and I'm a smithy to trade. Anyways thanks in advance.

Welcome to TBN!

No sure about the lift dropping at increased speed, but all indications point to your hydraulic pump(s) are worn out. This is indicated by the fact you can't lift anything heavier than your plow and that you need to increase the speed to lift the plow. Lift/pressure is created by pump flow so if your pump is worn out, it isn't producing adequate flow or flow is slipping by internally on the pump.

Thank you for your welcome and reply tractor tech.I will look into getting a new pump or service kit by the end of the week. It looks like I may have to split the tractor to get the old pump out. will keep you posted, all the best.

Hello tractor tech. I have found what the problem was with the weak lift on the hydraulics and it was a school boy error on my part. When I reinstalled the lift cover I did not pay attention and the pressure control arm was not engaging the butterfly bracket. The hydraulics are working great now. Many thanks for your input and all the best from the Highlands Scotland.
