Massey Ferguson 2135 won't go into reverse

Hello all, I just bought a 1965 Massey Ferguson 2135 for $1500.00, it has few problems that are easy to fix but the one main problem is it won't go into reverse. If you try to force it to go into reverse (which it won't) afterwards it takes a little bit of effort to get it into first, but once it's in first it will go from first to neutral back into first easy. There is no problem going second, or third, no problem with the hi/low range shift, and the shuttle all shift all seems good (it does not have Multi Power). Any idea's?

Just to the left of the shifter on a MF135, there is a large inspection/refill nut you can remove. I have no idea if you could see anything of value but it would be worth a look. This picture is just something I pulled off the Internet, but it shows the big nut just left of the shifter (ignore the arrow in the picture). Do you have this on your 2135?

Your arrow is pointing at the dash but a 2135 would have the same filler opening. On tractors with just the manual transmission, it is common to use a long screw driver in the filler hole to correct a condition of the tractor stuck in gear. There may be something you can slide from the filler opening? The OP might want to ask on an MF specific forum to get the best response.

Correct, as stated, that was simply a photo off the Internet and to ignore the arrow

I know that trick for getting one un-stuck, but I'll give it a try to get it into reverse, but it looks like I get to have some fun pulling the top cover off the trans. I have posted (and searched) this on a couple of MF specific forums with no answers yet. The stuck in gear is pretty much everywhere, not going into gear problem like mine seems to be non-existent.

After looking at a few manuals MF locked out the normal reverse gear like a farm tractor would have on the industrials (use the reverse in the shuttle shift on the industrials :duh: ).

I did not know that. Transmission engineers sure were creative in tractors.
