Massey Ferguson 1740M Hydro: LOSS OF POWER when hot!

Just an over-the-Summer update.... It was bad all summer (meaning after 30 or so minutes of mowing with the A/C on) it would have this power loss and no throttle response. HOWEVER!, now in the early Fall mowings with no A/C and much cooler temps (I actually have the back window open for air..... It has been WAY better, like I can go well over an hour with no sluggishness. On my last mowing, it was 52F, breezy and I mowed for almost 2 hrs with no issue; meaning I even had head room on the throttle mowing at the kept 540RPM's. So there is no question in my mind that this is related to heat, I'm not sure how or why, but the hot weather definitely kicks this in sooner or quicker, and, the A/C on accelerates it.

As much as this has been beat on it remains baffling. Someone's gotta solve it. No more comment from the dealer !? This really falls on AGCO to get to the bottom of it.

really (to me) now sounding like an ecm parameter issue.

Just to expand on the "related to heat" issue...I had a JD 3038e that would always, always start perfectly from a cold start. At normal run temperature it might or might not start on a mild to warm day. On a hot day it simply would not engage the starter when at normal run temperature. After it sat for 15-20 minutes it would start. No one ever found the problem or solution and I traded it for a MF 1840M and have lived happily ever after.

With this power-loss issue, I can restart my MF 1740M at anytime, even after the direct power loss. If I let the engine cool down like more than an hour, I will get full power, but for like a much shorter duration than the original start time, but full power does come back albeit for maybe 10 minutes. I believe it has to be put on a dyno or a 3pt hitch load, run under load while hooked up to the Agco diagnostic software. I truly appreciate the process of elimination going on with others here, and, you may get it solved, but this process is timely and pricey. I can state right now, Agco/MF must know of this issue as here, another Forum and my Youtube video we have had SEVERAL owners come forward with the same power loss issue. If we drop in the complaining little peons like us, then they (Agco) must clearly know of this issue as well. Maybe they are lining up a recall and the logistics thereof, but clearly there is a problem in some mechanical or engineering on an engine or fuel related component(s).

throughout all of this did anyone test/replace the ECT? actual engine coolant temp sensor, not sending unit for gauge. question asked under assumption its like automotive/truck and 2 distinct units.
dealt with some fords in mid 1990 to early 2000s that had similar (not exactly same) issues, ect or act (air charge temp) often issue.

I don't recall if it was ever asked or mentioned, where is the ECM mounted could it be easily relocated to a physically cooler location? Is there a heat sink which it is mounted to? has anyone added a fan to cool it a bit more?

Update from my post of July 25th. Been busy at work didnt had time to took care of that problem since now.

I road the tractor to my dealership 15 miles from home. They put it on the dyno and were able to recreate the problem. They came with the conclusion of bad injectors. New ones are ordered and they will test it again on the dyno after they change them to see if the problem persists. I'll try to keep you updated sooner this time.

Interesting, please do report back

This is a profound, if not colossal, finding. Because... so many users of not only MF tractors, not only 1740M but others have reported this SAME DISEASE in the life of this thread. I think there are multiple threads on the issue as well. Does the tractor world have THAT MANY "bad injectors?' If we do, this is major news to the tractor world... needs 100% confirmed and if true needs huge publicity.
