Hi everyone !!

I recently bought a Mf 165 1968 with a Perkins AD4 203 engine. The engine was pretty dirty when I bought it and with the loader attachement I did not notice everything when buying it... I was cleaning some dirt on the engine when i noticed a fiberglass patch under the starter. It is very cold this week in Quebec to be removing and inspecting behind the starter so I was just wondering what could crack or be damaged behind that? I used maybe 3 hours since i got it pushing snow and playing around getting used to the machine ( my first tractor by the way) and i have not noticed anything yet from that area.

Thank you for reading :)

Evidently there must be some kind of crack or damage under that patch/repair .... maybe one of the previous owners blew a piston connecting rod and punctured the case ?? Can this be welded or a better idea to repair :) Thanks

G'day
I'd say correct it has thrown a rod at some time and cracked the block, it is only splash oil behind there so if it is not leaking I would leave well enough alone just keep an eye on it

what about the rest of the engine ? How is your oil pressure when warm (should be around 40 psi). Need to check a few other things first.
A fibre glass repair on the engine casing is not necessarily bad and can last a very long time. If an engine rebuild has been done it should be ok but there is a need to check out the area properly. How big an area is the patch - if small then probably fine.

The rest of the engine seems good. Runs nice and smooth. Cant say much about the oil pressure . I dont trust the oil pressure gauge . It's pretty worn out.. The patch is about as big as the starter motor and have not taken a look with the starter removed yet but checked with a mirror. Looks oily a bit and will try to seal it better this spring. I am a little disappointed that i did not see it when I bought it. But if the engine blew before and was repaired properly maybe i am better off with a "repaired engine" with a patched casing than one who is close to blow something inside. Keeping my fingers crossed :)
