I have a 1965 MF 150 (3 cylinder Perkins diesel). I'd like to convert the charging system from a generator to an alternator. I've been searching the internet for a kit or for some part numbers for an alternator that would work, but haven't had any luck. I attached some pics of the existing generator. Any information would help.

Thanks

Thank you for the info.

Later models of 135's and 150's were factory equipped with alternators. It wouldn't be impossible to find mostly oem parts to make the swap.

My 1964 MF135 diesel has a Delco 10si single wire alternator. Easy to install. However, with this type of alternator, you need to rev the engine to 1800-2000 rpm to excite the altenator and get it to charge. One nice feature of the 10si is that the voltage regulator is built into the alternator. You can get a rebuilt 10si at NAPA for $60 or so.

Why don't you run an exciter wire from an oil pressure switch to your 10SI so it will charge at low rpm ?, thats the way i have mine set up.

Do you connect to the BAT terminal from the oil pressure switch? Also, what size wire?

Thanks

Sounds like a good idea.

14ga or 16ga wire is ample, here is a diagram showing the connections...
