I'm looking to give my old 35 a rest and was looking at the 2605 as a replacement. Old faithful is great at pulling a small scraper, gill pulverizer, and small brillion seeder for small landscape projects and I'm wondering if the 2605 would be a sufficient replacement. 4WD isn't necessary for my use but I hope the three point hitch/rear hydraulics are comparable to the old 35. Any feedback will be much appreciated (good or bad:)).

The 2605 is made in India and is a little crude, with rough casting and less refinement in general. I'd tend to look at the 1648 as a nicer choice, the only downside is they are lighter than the 2600 series.

Might want to take a look at the 2600HDs, they are tanks. They're a little pricey but are probably the closest thing to old iron like your 35 built by MF in that class today, IMHO.

I recently checked out the 2605, it appears to be a well built tractor. Don't let the country of origin scare you off.

It's running a simpson diesel, which is basically an Indian built perkins, parts even interchange.

It should be a good economical replacement for your MF35, if your not looking to pay extra for bells and whistles.

Take note of how much it weighs, it weighs about 1000 pounds more than most of the other tractors in this hp range. It also has larger tires than the other tractors in that range. This combination will allow you to get the most out of your available hp.

There will be people on this site that tell you hydrostatic is the only way to go, don't purchase a tractor without 4x4, front end loader etc etc.

For your stated needs, it sounds like the 2605 can handle it.

You're right it is certainly heavier than other brands in this HP range, which probably means better built. Another real plus is the three point lift has higher capacity than the others and I like the idea of adjustable draft response for grading. Thanks for your input guys it's much appreciated.

Pick your country, most tractors in this range (no matter the color) are made in India, Japan, China, South Korea etc.

It can get pretty confusing trying to figure out who makes what for who and where.

The early 2605 series had some problems but I have heard That AGCO has ironed them out now. Last year I think they offered these for under $10k.

10k sounds about right for a 2 wheel drive 2011
I was quoted slightly more for a 4 wheel drive 2011

They told me the new ones will be a bit higher because there is a new import tax and the price of steel has gone up.

I'm leaning towards the leftover 2605 4x4, but it's the last one they have. If I have to order a new one, I will probably step up one size in the 2600 series.

Just got a 2635 today. I wouldn't go so far as to call them crude, they are just more like a real tractor than anything else. I had a MF1533 which I was really comfortable in, felt quick and nimble, the 2600 series is definitely different. Coming from a 35 the OP should feel right at home. Time will tell of course, but this thing is a tank. They are using a well proven design that is time tested.
