Massey 135UK noise

Hi I am a newbie to the forum and I am starting to work on a new tractor to me.
I just inherited a 135UK Massey and it is making a squealing noise when you engage the Hi- Low shifter in neutral it is quite.
The last owner kept saying it was the alternator belt needing replacing. It does not make the noise all the time, any ideas?

Welcome to the forum. I also have a 135UK. Assuming the Tranny fluid level is okay, dipstick on case right side below seat. Question its quiet in nuetral and when you step on the clutch to shift into high or low you get the squeeling? Is the Tranny shifter also in neutral? When you release the clutch and drive the tractor does the squeel go away? On other vehicles I has a clutch release bearing make that sound when it seized.

Thanks for the reply.
The clutch does not affect the noise, having the tranny in gear & the Hi-Lo in neutral does not affect it.
Tranny fluid says full but I am going to do a complete change this weekend, it probably has never been changed, last owner was a gas and go type of guy.
Last oil change had been in 07.

I almost scrapped mine this summer, thought engine was gone. Turned out diesel was leaking into motor through the fuel pump diaphram. Rebuilt the pump and changed the oil and its like new again.

Get some gasket sealer, open up the plate with the PTO lever (when oil drained). There is a screen in there that needs to be cleaned. You will be able to peak inside and get an idea of condition..
