Hi everyone,
I noticed white sludge and antifreeze on the head when I went to do a valve cover change on my 135 with gas perkins 3 cylinder. I don't have any white smoke, oil in coolant or coolant in oil. The engine runs great. I knew I had a head gasket issue so I pulled the head and the gasket was blown between 1 and 2 cylinders. When I got a closer look I found a hairline crack running from the exhaust valve outward in #2 and also a hairline from the spark plug hole to the intake valve. I am not sure if this is where the coolant got in originally, but I suspect a previous owner had overheated it at some point. Anyway, I am looking at repair options. I could have the cracks pinned, but it would be very expensive. Probably more than a reconditioned head. However, I have searched high and low on the web and cannot locate a head for the GAS 3 cylinder anywhere. The diesel heads are all over the place. Are the gas heads really that rare?? What are your thoughts on this??
