If you do remove the PTO shaft after removing the 3 (not 4) bolts, be very careful when reinserting it in the 2 eccentrics working the 4 pistons of the hydraulic pump. Here is the picture from the manual :

3? 4? 12? Something like that.

Re-install is one (of many) reasons why I suggested getting a SERVICE manual.

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm a Canadian, eh! I thought there wouldn't be a difference between Canadian and American tractors. I took a couple of pictures of the front axle to see if that helps Farmwithjunk about figuring out the model or year of it. Thanks for the breakdown of the pto. It will help until I get hte books. I don't know the exact year (or serial # break-off point) but LATER model UK (Canadian too) 135's went to the straight axle. I'm thinking it was around '72 or so. I have a buddy who's more in tuned with UK models that I'll pass along the serial # to him. I'm sure he could identify the year based on ser. #.

That is the same setup as my 135 has. If it's a UK model that would explain why I can't get the info I want on my steering valve from the local Massy dealer. Upon seeing my tractor the mechanics there had no idea why it was setup like it is.

Brakeman could you humor me and get a picture of the steering gear housing? I just haven't seen another one like mine anywhere. Wanted to see if they are the same.

Here are a couple of pictures I had available right now.

I think what you have there is a 2135 OR more likely a 135 TURF SPECIAL. (Note non-adjustable front axle) They were quite different than a standard 135.

My diesel Massey 35 has an adjustable front axle.

Farmwithjunk the guy I purchased it from said it was an Orchard model but I am thinking more and more that it may be a hybrid of sorts assembled from more than 1 tractor. It has the same rear axle and 3 point setup as a 165.

Anyway it runs great so I am not concerned about the hybrid possibility. Just makes working on it a little more interesting.

End hijack.

The orchard models did use the 165 style rear ends..... That would make perfect sense. I believe that's what Flusher's 135 is.....

I checked Dirtleg's 6/21/08 post ("Just bought a 135 orchard"). His 135 has that beefy rear axle that's very different from the one on my 135 orchard.

My 135 has the standard 135 axle (shown in this photo)

As near as I can figure, the original owner of my 135 cut down or replaced the front axle spindles to lower the tractor and substituted 16" dia rear rims for the standard 28" rims so the tractor could be used in his olive orchard. It sure doesn't look like any of the 135 orchard tractors in my MF fat book ("A World-Wide Guide to Massey Ferguson 100 and 1000 Tractors--1964-1988").

Hey Brakeman, what ever happened with the pto? Did it operate? Did you get the leak fixed? Thanks TB

Sorry about not getting back. Between work and helping my dad its been busy. Well its a UK Massey as per the partsman (actually a lady). I have got the seal in and just have to replace it. No time account my dads International 656 blew a seal so the little Massey was put in to draw the hay. I got a shop manual, it is a I&T manual. How reliable are the specs in these books? Also it state to use Type A auto transmission fluid for the power steering and the partsman says they use hyradralic/transmission oil (hy-trans). any comments would help

I&T manuals are known for errors and omissions, especially so with the MF manuals. They're decent quick reference, but I'd MUCH rather trust an OEM manual from Massey Ferguson/AGCO. I prefer the automotive tranny fluid in the power steering. Seals seem to hold up better from my experience.

I've got a MF 135 Diesel that needs some new brakes. I've got all the parts for the tractor, just need some help fixing them. One mechanic came over and had to leave for emergency and left the parts in my garage so now the tractor has no brakes. Any suggestions on honest mechanics that live in the branson area? If this isn't the right thread, sorry about that. Thanks for any help.

Hi guys, back in the game. I replaced the seal which does not look as durable as the original steel cladded one but it seems to work. I replaced the hydralic fluid now when I lift the 3point hitch it goes up and down well but the last few inches it shudders into position. And Ianham5 I just up dated my info and I'm sort up in The Great White North eh! But I'm going to have to do my brakes to since one doesn't work and the other locks the wheel. Like to know any issues you have Thanks.

HI Brakeman; Im new to the forum and noticed your entries. Im in Peterbrough Ontario and have a 135. Presently I have a recent problem with slow hydraulics. A local mechanic suggests a clogged filter but without a view of it and where it is I cant imagine how my hand will pull it out of the tranny. Any ideas or maybe a picture? Im working on getting manuals .

Thanks

Keith

Filter should be on the right side of the tractor behind the dipstick plate??

Could be a clogged filter, contaminated fluid (shift lever boots split and are allowing water into case) or seals on the standpipe. Pics are of my MF 135, hope they help.

Hey keithh255 good to hear from another local, I live just outside of Peter Patch. I just have the IT manual so far and I was told the actual manuals are the way to go. I still have to change the hydralic filter as the fluid was really contaminated. The hydralics work well but a little jerky. The Massey is working really well now since I started to make it work for its keep. I'm still learning the little things about MFs.
