Trying to make the painful decision between a 135 Perkins gasser and 150 Perkins diesel. Gasser has 850 honest hours and diesel has 2200 hours, or so the gauge shows.

Taking everything into consideration, I know the diesel 150 has certain advantages. But, it costs an extra grand, too. Is the Perkins gasser going to give up that much to the diesel so as to make it less attractive for purchase? Is it compromised appreciably in fuel economy, is it giving up a lot of field performance capability relative to the diesel?

The diesel appears to be taller in side view, not the short utility shape of the gasser.

thanks to all.

I like the power and fuel economy of the diesel. I used a MF35 diesel while my neighbor would use his MF35 gas and doing similar work he would consume nearly three time the amount of gas as I used diesel bush hogging fields. If I remember the 150 is a little longer and heavier in the front. The 135 seems a little light in the front while work on hills with a rotary cutter on the back.

What do you plan to do with it?

Looking for an acre or two of moldboard plowing, and 6 acres of bush hogging. Nothing particularly difficult.

Either one would be fine for that. 850 hours would be new like wear wise I would think.

Can you post pics and prices of these?

The Perkins 152CI three cylinder gasoline engine is a converted diesel design and is a very good engine. The torque characteristics are good for a gasoline engine though not the same as a diesel. I suspect that you will be satisfied with either.

The 150 has a heavier front axle and is preferred for FEL work.
