I am disappointed that manufacturers do not make a greater effort to reduce this. Upon receiving any equipment, new or used, I install magnetic drain plugs (eng, trans, front&rear end, etc). One of the worst offenders was a new Suzuki MC that had whole curled chips from thread tapping in the transmition. Although my new JD 4310 seems fairly "clean", when I did my initial engine oil change at 30 hrs, I was alarmed at the metalic "sparkles" in the drain pan. I dragged a magnet through the oil and it got "fuzzy". I realize this is mainly due to the initial "wear-in" The Yanmar engine doesn't come with a mag plug. The trans/hyd is equipped with a mag plug.

I lurk down in the chinese tractor forum ( there's a few of them that get agressive if you post and don't own a chinese tractor), and just reading about the 'break in procedure' for those tractors makes my head spin.. even for someone who is used to 'tinkering' on antique tractors.

The list usually involves changing all the fluids it has been shipped with from china.. possibly the battery.. and some nuts/bolts..e tc.

Also.. it is pretty much expected to get shavings out of the drain ports.. etc. Neat huh!

Soundguy,
This has been a somewhat common issue with the non chinese brands as well if you will remember the posts. And changing batteries to non vented types to prevent damage from acid venting. Granted the chinese ones are pretty rough. Watch the future though in about 10 years the majority compact tractors will probably come from China.

Disclaimer: Not a chinese tractor owner or advocate, just watching trends /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Addmittedly I don't read the MF or jd forums much.. but I can't say that I've seen a "metal shaving on the drain plug on a new tractor" post in the NH forum ??

I also agree that their production will ramp up. As china makes deals with other big companies I predict that like their 'people' resource.. they will also start turning out more and more machines.. etc
Right now many scut /cut are jap frames. etc. If chine becomes more viable at a cheaper price.. it only stands to reason that manufacturing may shift over there... in search of the almighty dollar.

I'm glad I've got a tractor for now that fits all my needs, and even fits some future needs I don't even know about yet /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif !

With anything new I try to run short drain intervals for the first couple of services. For example, I changed the oil in my latest Dmax at 85, 325, and 3k which also got a filter change.

Dust, dirt, break in metals etc are in much greater concentration when new.
