Man dies after being trapped under rear tires of his tractor

Three of my four tractors have a separate parking brake; IH 574, Branson 8050, and New Holland 8160.
The Kioti CK2620 does not have a separate parking brake but does have a latch for the service brake.
I almost never shut off a tractor while connecting an implement, either towed or mounted, two tractors have fender mounted lift arm controls and one has an operable lift arm control from the rear.

What a tragedy. I recently got a quick hitch and top link and I don't need to get out of the tractor anymore. I did it for convenance, but wow, looks like the extra Safety is a much better reason.

Farming is one of the most dangerous vocations around. Accidents happen to the best of us, a lot of the time stupidity over rules common sense and good judgement. Sorry for the mans demise.

Not much info. What was he doing, hooking up on a hill?
I leave the tractor running when hooking up because it usually takes some inching back and forth to line up the pins.
Always make sure I am on level ground and trans in neutral, bucket firmly on the ground.

I read a story yrs ago about a man who was under a BH removing twine or wire. The tractor was idling but the rear lift leaked down lowering the attachment on him where he eventually died. Sad but true. Be safe out there!

Know three that died tractor related.

One was hydraulic line failed as he had loader raised and it came down on home.

Another was run over and had a slow agonizing death spread over weeks.

Another bush hogging side slope with old Ford and no ROPS and was crushed…

Another disfigured when he went under roto-tiller attached to farm all cub.

Terrible news. An acquittance I went to high school with was starting a tractor by jumping/arcing across the starter. Tractor started and rolled over them. Worse was a grandkid was in the tractor seat.

On my Kubota I use a fast hitch, saves time and ease of attachment connections also use the parking brake with motor off once the impliment is just of the ground. My best friend was killed years ago by the driveline when using his post hole digger on a Massy 165; a very tragic seen I have never forgot.

Sorry to hear this. A local guy here was crushed under his tractor a year or so back. They believe he was starting his tractor from the ground not knowing it was in gear. Started right up and ran over him.
