I was reading in operating manual about clutch adjustment and noticed that it said clutch wear causes excessive free play. Well my problem resulted in no free play. I got about 1/2" by adjusting until i was at end of threaded clutch rod. Jabonee says its the known clutch problem where clutch sticks to shaft. I cant argue with him but am now convinced that riding the clutch didnt cause my problem. Am I wrong? Also, I still dont understand why tractor reacts to a really wet patch of ground the same as it does when going up hill. Can anyone explain why both of these things happen with a stuck clutch?

Wear of the clutch plate causes a decrease in pedal free play. Finally the clutch will begin to slip when free play is gone. No free play is also bad for the throw out bearing. Alternately, the clutch sticking to the shaft can also cause it to slip, but usually youll get some clutch drag to alert you that it is sticking -- the tractor will try to move a little even though youve depressed the clutch. Have you noticed this on your tractor?

What do you mean by reactions to wet ground and going up a hill?

This is what a found on the last Mahindra stuck clutch I had. Only had 100hrs on it. Excessive free play causes clutch wear by not fully releasing the clutch. To little can damage the release bearing, pressure plate and clutch. Usually loss of free play indicates the clutch material is coming loose from the metal disk.

If the clutch binding to the shaft is a known issue I’d think there’d be some type of lubricant or coating applied to prevent the corrosion and keep the clutch from sticking. Seems like a better solution then putting a little swing arm that you need to move to keep the clutch engaged when not using the tractor for some unspecified length of time.

Lack of lubrication is the point. I'm finding little to none. JD had the same issue a few years back with the 5200 tractors. Spent the summer splitting tractors just to lube input shaft splines.

Wet ground issue:
Im heading downhill with a round bale on my spears in high2. Tractor is moving along til I reach a muddy spot in front of my hay storage area. The tractor slows to a creep. I have to shift to a lower range. When I get past the wet spot I can shift to high1 or mid3-- its level ground. I dump my bale and head back in mid3 and i do pretty well until I have to go uphill Then I have to drop down to mid 2 or 3 to get back up the hill even without a bale on the spears

This is right out of my 5010 gear operating manual. I believe you guys over Mahindra but it sure is frustrating. I mean why would I already be out of clutch adjustment when i first noticed the slipping problem

Jabonee:
If the clutch is stuck rather than worn, what will happen if i do the bad clutch test (Put it in high gear while tractor is moving)?

If your tractor has a FEL butt it against something solid that wont move. Hold your foot on the brake. High range, high gear about half throttle. Let the clutch slowly out. It should stall the engine if clutch is good ! FYI A stuck clutch will wear the clutch as shown in the edge on photo of clutch I posted as a reply. Note the thickness of the clutch material on each side of the disk! This unit would move ok on the level with no load. Get on a hill and it would stop moving.

Thanks. Ill give it a try when i get my power steering unit installed. Ive got some big trees that should do. Im going to get the clutch fixed too but thought i could wait til i dont need it to get hay out of chicken house. Mid-March. Sounds like Ill need a clutch whether its worn already or stuck and wearing away as i continue to use it
