Tell me dex3361,would your 4400 have any problems clearing out 3 acres of small to 6" pines not being on any timetable?

Will you be clearing with or without backhoe?

Trees are tough with loader even pines can be a struggle depending on soil type

Without. Soil is soft and kinda sandy. Planned on taking my time dig a bit and push em over. No real hurry to finish it. New place and horses in front

If the ground is damp and the soil is not rocky pines usually are pretty easy to remove. I usually use the tooth bar and work the roots a little on the side I am going to push on. Then push about 5 foot high on the tree and a 6 inch southern pine goes over. Hardwood trees are a little more difficult, some have a tap root. I have a grapple and a tooth bar and these both help in small tree removal. Soil conditions can greatly differ and rocks can be a game changer because the roots have something good to grip to. Have you thought about a HST trans. I highly recommend them. I would give one a try before saying no. Buying a tractor is a big investment and getting what is right for you is the most important thing.
So to answer you question I think I could get it done and have a good time doing it.

I assume you are talking about the HST. If so give on e a try before you give up on them. By the way the L4400HST does not have a computer and a lot of electronics. It is a rather simple machine. Thats what I like about it.

The only thing about hydro-static that worries me is at the docks we have fork lifts with it and they suck but is a totally different application so i guess i should look into it

We work our L5030 side by side with our geared M8540 in very brush conditions and have no concerns about durability.

Most forklifts use a torque converter type drive system not a true hydro at all! The hydro would save on clutch wear and would be a long term savings to you!

It wasn't to many years ago I remember jd bragging about an all new shuttle shift transmission on their tractors. It was a yanmar build and it had reverse and first in line and they were calling it a shuttle!!!!!

The L-4400 has four gears that are the main work gears that are used in low range and reverse with one lever to move. I do call this a shuttle type transmission as some tractors when going to reverse have not allowed you to use the higher gears anyway!!!

When you look at the numbers of the kubota tractors sold in this country compared to other makes and you don't see negative write-ups on reliablity then you definitely have a solid well built tractor.
