Mahindra warranty on transmission shift

My son's Emax26 he purchased new. It is about 5 months before the warranty runs out. He was having an issue with the shuttle shift. Getting harder and harder to shift. He checked all of the external linkage. Called the dealer, they said that it must be brought into the shop. He took it in. Upon taking the shifter out of the transmission, they found rust on the shifter linkage inside the transmission. They do not think that anything else was wrong. Did not lose enough fluid to matter and nothing dropped into the fluid. After cleaning the rust and putting the shifter back inside the transmission, it works fine.
The dealer wants to charge him about $200 for the repair. Does not think that warranty would pay for it as it is not part of the power train. I don't understand this as it was inside the transmission. He could not fix it himself without taking it out of the transmission. Which I advised against as it might void the warranty. Has anyone else had this problem? I think it may be time for a call to head office.

Ask them to remove it and see how the machine moves then, that'll answer that question.

Good luck calling the head office. Most of the time they will just say please contact your local Mahindra dealer for any warranty repair submissions. I am sure your dealer believes this cost maybe denied under warranty, perhaps from a previous experience.

Since, nothing was replaced, the entire $200 charge is a labor cost.

Yes, labor only. A lot of local problems with this dealer. Ships all tractors to car shop he owns 60 miles away.

Depends on what there legalese is on powertrain. Might not cover "shift linkage"

I had a warranty repair on a car that they weren't going to cover until I showed them in plain writing in the warranty book it was covered. I asked what the name of the part that was "broke" was called, and then pointed out that exact word under "items covered by powertrain warranty"

I am thinking that process of shipping every tractor to an off site repair facility, is in violation of Dealer/Franchise agreements for most tractor manufacturers. Our local Mahindra dealer shares his mechanics with the local Kioti dealer. In the morning the mechanics are at the Kioti dealer, and afternoon's they are at the Mahindra dealer. But at least, all tractor repairs are done onsite.

Repair is done. They did cover it under warranty, BUT, he paid for the transmission oil and filter and labor for that at over $250.
He picked it up and noticed that pins and bolts were left out. Dealer did not have any and mechanic could not find the right ones. Owner said, no big deal, it works now. Son not happy, he purchased a new tractor. Owner took bolts out of a new tractor on the line. I hope I don't know who gets it. When he got home and went to use it, the shift lever was very loose. Found pin for shift level had been replaced with a bolt that was too short and too small. It had a lock nut on it, but was too short so the nut was on by only a couple of threads. I think the next one will be purchased at another dealer.

Wow that does sound like a crappy dealer. Correct I would find another dealer also.......
