Comparison Mahindra vs Kioti

I have a DK35 I bought new in 2004 and have never had an issue that wasn't human created! ;-)

One reason that I went with Kioti over Mahindra is that Kioti actually manufactures the tractors that have their name on them. Some of the Mahindras are made by Mitsubishi, some by TYM, some have Mahindra motors and some don't seem to, and that made me worried about what happens when Mahindra switches suppliers and I need a new starter in 10 years. In my day job I run into this a lot and it can be a real mess, not something that I want to worry about with a tractor. I like it that Kioti makes the tractor chassis, the motor, the loader, etc.., so I only have to deal with one vendor for parts not like the mess that the folks who bought Cabellas's tractors are going through now, not knowing who supports what, where to buy parts, and even what some of the part numbers are. Kioti is more like Kubota and Deere than some of the others.

It really took me a while to accept the fact that tractors aren't like vehicles. You cant expect to buy them and not have any issues.

I bought a new DK45HST in 2012 and never had a problem with it except the damage I inflicted on in in the bush (minor). It starts and runs like steam at 600 hrs.
On the other hand I bought a new Silverado in 2015 and have had that in for warranty twice, also minor.

2001 Kioti DK 35.
I've owned it 17 years, 2100+ hours.
Never been back to the dealer, never gives me any issues.
Everything is still nice and tight, works as good and as smooth as when it was new

I'll add that for most kiotis, I can find every last part available through MIE, Nolts, Haltom Equip, and others. Usually with a full picture breakdown. Some of the best and inclusive parts views I've ever seen of any tractor. And parts are usually reasonable through these sources. This was a big plus for me, when I can go online and find the parts that I need without always having to go through a dealer and ask.

I still hear people criticize my tractor on occasion, saying "sure its a fine machine, but you'll have a hard time finding parts for it" on the regular. This simply isn't true. For a comparison, go out and try to find massey parts online with a full breakdown.

X2 ! MIE has many parts in stock so no ordering from Kioti. They have a great parts breakdown and easy to order. Kubota years ago had parts for their tractors made by Kioti.

No issues with my massey , that don't mean there is none. I seen plenty of issues with dk 40s. They all have problems.

Please! Do tell?

I haven't had any problems and the only problems I have heard reported before I purchased was the ignition switch not working properly when left outside and one guy broke a front axel.
Upon investigation the guy who broke the axel actually lost control going down hill with a load in the bucket and hit a bunch of rocks. Everyone around started to listen to a rumor started buy a Kool-Aid drinker of a different brand that they had week axels but I doubt any other tractor would have survived without breaking after talking to the guy and actually being able to see what all he hit going down that mountain.
The 2 people who told me about the ignition switch had them replaced with no hassle from the dealer and have had no issues since.
Now understand I personally talked with many more owners before I purchased and that was the only person to person problems I was told about, everyone else was perfectly happy with their machines and reported no issues at all. SO I wonder where you get the " They all have problems." from.
In all honesty I have heard more complaints from Deere and Mahindra owners than any other brand. Also when I last shopped for tractors I wasn't impressed to find Mahindra tractors with tid bits not working as they sat on the lot brand new when the Kioti, Kubota, LS, New Holland were all in perfect working order at every dealer. For the record even TYM which was the lowest costing at the time had less issues reported than the Mahindra.
I did also talk with a few Massey owners and they all told me that when it came to big tractors they bleed red but for their compacts they look to other brands but I honestly didn't get good feedback on why. So again I wonder what brand has all the problems that makes someone say they all have problems and we the consumer just need to get used to it.
I don't have or expect to have problems with my cars, trucks, tractors, trailers, motorcycles or boats or I simply wouldn't buy that brand! It just seems unreasonable to me to expect someone to pay the money these things cost if they are supposed to anticipate problems and costly repairs from the start.
I tell everyone who asks about the problems some friends and family had with their JD's and tell them the good things that I heard about Kioti, LS and Kubota and simply cant understand how someone could say that we all have to accept that all tractors have problems when they really don't.

So please tell me about all those problems I'm supposed to have so I know what to look forward to.

X2 ! MIE has many parts in stock so no ordering from Kioti. They have a great parts breakdown and easy to order. Kubota years ago had parts for their tractors made by Kioti.

Kubota still uses parts made by Daedong (kioti). Daedong Metal, to be more specific. They make castings for many large players in the Ag, industrial and automotive industries.

There are a number of threads out there on this topic, but long story short, Daedong and Kubota were one of the same, they split, they both made tractors, there were a few lawsuits from both sides, and now they appear to have some sort of equilibrium. Daedong Metal selling cast parts to kubota while Daedong makes their own tractors. Naturally we'll find parts on one that are similar to the other.

Recently a good example of this here on TBN: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kioti-owning-operating/383243-v2203-interchangeability.html

Far from saying they are the same tractor, but I think it shows their quality is certainly in the same league.

Looking at two very similar tractors - Mahindra 2638 vs Kioti CK 3510.
2638 is 20% heavier for 10% more money and with my hills, that's needed weight.
I revisited dealers today and am happy with both. Slight nod to Mahindra on service.
Any suggestions / advice on what and how to compare would be appreciated!

Just this week I tried out Mahindra 2638 and Kioti CK3510. Not owning and using either I can't speak to longevity or actually performing in a way that matches their spec sheets. However, these were my observations and reason why I would take the Kioti over the Mahindra for those two specific models:

2638 seat is very comfortable but doesn't move back far enough. Note the angle of your leg on the HST pedals and then imagine operating that way for a few hours. Unless you have fairly short legs, probably awkward body position. The 3510 seat is nowhere near as plush but still has adjustable suspension and moves back far enough for average to longer legs.

2638 moved the loader joystick to a better position vs 2538 and is similar to 3510 placement. However look at both and note how the hyd lines are run on each from the joystick. Kioti are straight and routed high up under the frame. Mahindra looked very poorly done with sagging low hanging lines with almost full loops toward the rear. The Mahindra hyd lines to the joystick look like they are begging to get snagged/ripped off/cut/damaged.

2638 HST brakes in low were a very abrupt stop when you let off the pedal. Too harsh of a stop. Kioti grabbed pretty well, but was a little gentler and didn't feel harsh. Yet wasn't an exaggerated rolling stop either. This is personal preference in how you want the HST to stop and probably varies a bit machine to machine. Just noted on my sample size of one each.

The 2638 loader was smoother than the kioti but I couldn't hit a spot to raise and curl simultaneously. Kioti loader felt like it was moving faster, but was also a bit "twitchy" feeling and would bounce the tractor a little more with "twitchy" movements. I was able to raise/curl simultaneously on the Kioti, but not nearly as easily/smoothly as a Kubota.

2638 had 4 ply tires, Kioti had 6 ply (although others parked around it had 4 ply - apparently come with either). Only looked at ind tread - ag/turf maybe same.

Kioti was priced lower. To the point if financing you would walk away with CK3010 SE with all those upgrades for less than 2638 base model.

PTO guard on the Kioti flipped up a little more than Mahindra. Both seemed to have good access for hooking up a bush hog or whatever there so maybe not a big deal, but Kioti guard gets a little farther out of the way.

In general they both came with the same standard features. Mahindra included rubber floormat, 12v accy plug, flatter floor, and extra year of powertrain warranty, engine 2.5HP more (but PTO HP same for both).

From just initial and short "test drives" for both I would choose the Kioti, but overall very similar machines. If the Mahindra seat moved back a little more or the HST pedals were further forward would be closer call, but since it didn't fit me well, quickly scratched off list. However, if for some other reason like the extra year warranty or added weight or better dealer etc, I was going to choose Mahindra I would get the 2538 vs the 2638. Lose the comfy seat, but it moved enough to fit me. Lose the fender loader joystick, but the column-mounted 2538 had the hyd lines routed much better.

Just an interesting observation with regard to the TBN forums....scroll through the Kioti specific forum and the Mahindra specific forum. Mahindra is the number 3 selling tractor in the US and number 1 in the world so one could easily argue there are many more Mahindra's than Kioti's in the US. The observation is, why are there so many more posts in the Kioti forum about problems with Kioti's than there are in the Mahindra forum about Mahindra's?
