Mahindra 7060
Hello,

I have a 2012 Mahindra 7060. Has 550 hours been a good tractor. One day the rpm’s started surging like crazy and blowing whitish blue smoke. It could easily surge 500 rpms. Plus it stopped idling. Changed both fuel filters (very dirty) drained fuel tank, put in Lucas injection treatment, got new inner and outer air filter. Plus I replaced the fuel line from the tank to the filters, plus the fuel line from the fuel injector pump back to the tank.
All that said, now it idles perfect, no more smoke, no more rpm surge…..
UNTIL you put any kind of ELECTRICAL load on it. Lights, vent fan ( has a cab) or ac. Then you can barely get the rpms past 1700, the smoke starts again. Sometimes blue but white also.
Any ideas? Hydraulic load no problems, just when there is an electrical load. Thanks much for any thoughts.

I take it the smoke comes from the exhaust and not the electrical component itself? That would seem to indicate a problem with your charging system - too much load on the alternator perhaps? Lights are not a particularly heavy load, nor is a fan. Does this happen with all loads or just one or two specific things?

We’ll just tried some brush hogging and made it one pass and it started smoking and losing power. Guess it’s more than just an electrical load then. But yes all smoke from the exhaust pipe

Is the smoke more white or blue?

White would indicate something in the injectors/fuel system/timing system or maybe a coolant leak. You can hold you hand over the exhaust and see if moisture collects on your hand. Diesel smell is fuel, sweet or no smell is coolant.

Blue is burning oil, like rings/cylinders/stem seals, could also be your engines vent system if it has one (breather/egr) or the turbo if it has one.

Ok thanks guys for the help. I’ve got a good dealer in my area, I think I’ll turn it over to them. More than I can mess with.

Try running or water across the fins of your radiator from back to front. This will help dislodge duct and grass which may be clinging and causing an overheating problem.

I'm thinking fuel related since you said the filters were that dirty. Could be as simple at sucking air into the lines or dirty injectors from the crud.
