Mahindra Battery Corrosion

Mahindra Max 28 XL hst is just over a year old - in the first months of operation there appeared significant corrosion at the positive post. And yesterday during routine maintenance, I was aghast at the spread of the corrosion from the post to the tie down "j" bolts. This is unacceptable. What could be causing the phenomenon in an otherwise very clean tractor?

Im having the same issue. I've read that there was a bad run is the exide batteries. Not sealed at the post. Other have gotten the batteries and cables replaced under warranty. I'm hoping to take mine in soon for the same. I have corrosion on the lower comers on the side panels as well.

yup, my dealer said it's a very common problem. I had the same problem after having it for about 4-5 months. I took mine apart, cleaned it all up and coated everything with grease last Fall.

So far so good.

Sounds like the battery is leaking around the positive post.

Most machines don't have well thought out battery trays and hardware. They don't seem to care if your machine doesn't stay new very long! The paint in those areas never lasts long. I have modified brackets and bolts in those areas with epoxy filled heat shrink tubing and plastic or rubber under the battery. I like using those coated felt disks under the terminals as well.

Compare battery brands, see if they are from the same maker. I don't think the tractor itself would cause that problem. But stranger things have happened.

The Exide that came in my 4035 had some minor corrosion on the terminals when I bought it. It continually got worse at a pretty rapid pace. The battery died at the beginning of the year and I cleaned everything up real good and recoated things with some paint. Probably not as well as it was new, but good enough as long as the source of the corrosion were stopped, it would be fine. When shopping around for a replacement, I searched specs to get the heaviest battery I could. That turned out to be a NAPA battery. Since switching the battery the corrosion has not started again.

The bad batch of Exides mentioned above is a possibility...

Battery is part of general maintenance.. the ends need to be checked while doing your service then cleaned and coated if need be
