Mahindra 5010

Just got home with the new 5010 and played around with it a little bit. Seems like it will do the job but I took it out across a hay field and man does it seem to ride rough. I am used to much bigger tractors so maybe it is due to the short wheel base? It is starting to snow hard here so I didn't check the tire air pressure. Maybe the have too much air. I guess the good news is we are supposed to get 7 to 10 inches tonight so I will get to see how it handles that tomorrow. I have a FEL and a 7 ft blade on the rear. Should be fun!

I do not have any fluid in the tires. Do you think that would help the ride?

Welcome to the Mahindra club. You are correct about filling the tires. Do so front and rear and the ride will be much improved. Let us know about the snow job.

The snow is piling up here so I just had to try it out. Only about three inches or so now but will be a lot more by morning. I have a gravel drive that is about 1/4 of a mile long. I turned the blade around backwards so I would not move the gravel too much and it worked really well. We have been warm here so our gravel is really not frozen in place yet so it was really nice to be able to do that with the blade. It may get too deep to do that in the morning though. I was nice and cozy in the cab! The lights didnt work too bad but I need to adjust them.

Sometimes folks raise tire pressure before they chain them down on trailers for transporting over long distances. 'Posed to help keep the chains tight or 'sumptin.... Maybe less bounce in the tire... You should check the pressure recommended in your manual. I read the manual, sidewall of the tire, and common sense to decide what pressure I am going to use. I use a permanent marker and write this pressure by the valve of each tire for future reference. Me, I keep my tires fairly pumped up with the hoe and dirt load on the front in the summer.... don't lower pressure in the winter. I weigh in almost four and a half tons empty in the summer, without pee'n in the tires....

We did get about 8 inches last night. I am very happy with the way it moves snow. I really like the HST for this. Here is a pic of the tractor.

Just to confirm, very typical for dealers to have the tires over inflated, see it all the time. I agree with AchingBack, load the tires, properly inflate and you will get a nicer ride. :thumbsup: I have all 4 tires filled on both my Mahindra 7520 and 3215. Works out VERY well IMO.

The 5010 has a short wheel base for a tractor with such a substantial lift capacity on the FEL. That gives a nice turning radius, but in my opinion it also makes it really important to have ballast when using the loader. Otherwise the backend will come up at about half capacity.

MtnViewRanch is correct about air pressure when dealers deliver. Typically the tires are set near max when they units are assembled. Depending on your application, you can sometimes remove quite a bit of pressure, especially in the rears.
