My hearing awful with only one ear, so can't tell where it's coming from.

I would suggest getting someone to determine where the noise is coming from and having a look at the machine. Almost impossible for us to diagnose over the internet if we don't know what is making the noise. One thing I would check is to see what the hydraulic fluid looks like. Any fine metal shaving in there?

Thanks for the reply. I have had problems with the power steering freezing up when it is worked hard. So that is where I'll look first. Fluid looks fine but vintage Mahindra every thing leaks.

Better you check the whole system with an expert. Otherwise, it will mess up things.

The 4110 has a tubular screen in the very lowest point of the case held in by 1 bolt and has a captured O-ring - that is the 1st filter in the hydraulic system and will catch metal shavings etc. It is on the left side towards the rear axle area of the case. It WILL drain all 8 gallons of hydraulic oil pretty quick if you remove it though. On my early 4110 it has a very large metal canister containing the replaceable suction filter on the right underside - this is right before the 2 hydraulic pumps mounted in tandem on the engine. You have to drop this canister from the tractor and split it to change the filter inside.

The 2 hydraulic pumps LOOK like 1 unit but are 2 separate pumps - the front most pump is for the tractor hydraulics, the rear half is for the power steering. The power steering hose runs from this section of the pump to the valve on the steering column. The spin-on hydraulic filter is used only for the tractor side hydraulics (high pressure).

My 4110 power steering is just barely enough when doing loader work - you have to be moving slightly in order to turn the wheels alot of the time with a full bucket of material.

My "vintage" 4110 with 3,160 hrs. on it doesn't leak a drop of anything whatsoever.
