Does the PTO just spin in one direction. Is there not a forward and reverse? Example: on a digger attachment can the blade spin forward and then in reverse to remove the bit from the hole and spin the dirt off of the bit?

Your PTO spins in one direction only. I suspect a specialty machine exists that can spin the pto both directions, but I have never heard of one.
A hydraulically powered auger can turn either way, which is a huge advantage when drilling holes. If you bury the auger on a pto powered unit sometimes the auger must be removed from the implement and spun out by hand with a large pipe.
