My 3316 tipping cylinder is leaking and I was able to get the new seal kit but I am having trouble figuring out how to disassemble.
The cylinder is a KMW 3150-2113 that does not have a gland seal that is threaded. There is a clip that can be removed on the outside and that is all.
I found a YouTube video with someone repairing a similar configuration on a John Deere cylinder and it showed removing the clip, pushing the gland into the cylinder, inserting a split wedge shaped ring into the groove in the cylinder and that allowed the guts to be pulled out. I did not get a split ring like that in my seal kit. Is that required for this cylinder or is there some other non-obvious procedure?
Thanks for any help.

John Deere is the only cylinder that I've ever seen requiring that stupid tool. If it has an external snap ring, remove that and try pushing the gland in to see if that exposes another internal ring. That's how most cylinder of that style are made.

The exploded view of the parts does show a retaining ring. I couldn't figure out how it fit in.
Thanks for the info I will investigate.

If you're new to this game, be careful when pushing the gland into the cylinder. I usually use a hammer and brass punch so as not to nick the shaft. Also don't push it in any farther than it takes to deal with the inner wire ring. If you go too far you can block off the oil port which will trap the air in the barrel. Then the gland and piston will be much harder to pull out

Well I was finally able to dig into this. When I pushed the gland into the cylinder it exposed a groove, square edge toward the end and tapered into the cylinder. When I pulled the gland back out I could hear the ring make a hard stop. Sounds like the John Deere cylinder. I am going to find someone around me that may be able to fix it. Thanks again.
