Concur with all the positive reviews. I have the 2538 and have put over 150 hrs doing a lot of different things, some would probably not be recommended. I have dug up stumps, pushed over large cedar trees, dug into the side of a hill to level off patio area and build pad for pool, oh and I also mow with it. Not one single issue yet. I bought the 2538 after putting about 150 hrs on a Max 28 and realizing it was too small for my needs. I started with Mahindra because pound for pound the best value, it is heavier and lifts more than other comparable colors. Just my .02 your mileage may vary.

I would take a real good look at RK Tractors if I were you. You will get the deluxe model of your tractor for less money and I believe with a better warranty if I'm not mistaken. Don't get me wrong, I like Mahindra tractors, have 2 of them that have been basically trouble free. Just that there are other alternatives that should be considered IMO.

Good luck. ;)

I agree. The RK37 and the Mahindra 2638 are basically the same tractor made by TYM with the main differences being the engine and the loader. Mahindra has their no DPF engine and RK uses a Yanmar engine. If there was an RK dealer near me I would have certainly considered them. I was also considering the TYM branded version but the only dealer for TYM near me hadn't been a dealer very long whereas there are four established Mahindra dealers all within an hour or so of me.

With no past experience with either of the dealers, how might I go about "checking them out?"

The salesman was very informative, friendly, and honest (even talked about the green tractors they do not sell). But I am aware sales and service are two totally different departments!

One of the dealerships I visited before buying did not impress me. Kinda looked like a fly by night operation even though they have been there for decades, generally sorry housekeeping.Romex cable free throwed around where it could easily have been secured and tucked away, that sort of thing. Also the sole mechanic on duty was about 19 years old, nothing against being 19 as I was there once upon a time but lack of experience in the field does concern me. Lastly the sales guy was deceitful which is another story.
The dealership I did buy from repped the Case International brand for decades before adding Mahindra. Sales guy was straightforward (not the lowest price but he did add a canopy) and the place had a reputation of fixing problems other dealerships couldn't. And some of the many mechanics looked like they might have had 19 years experience in the field. So that was what I noticed when I went shopping.
