splitshot, thanks for the picture and update. Happy to see you got it done! It appears you used a transmission jack to support the axle for removal? Do i need to order gasket for the main body separation or did you use tube sealant? This is something i have never attempted. Any other suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks.
bobstorage, no problem!
-yes, the transmission jack was a backsaver, especially when reinstalling. I also used a cherry picker/engine hoist to support the rops from above (that helped alot)
-for gasket material I used the black permatex, sealed it fine.
-I took my time (I'm retired) and PTL I knocked it out over several days.
-I have a boatload of photos if you need to see anything specific.
Suggestions?
-take plenty of photos along the way
-do one side at a time (your second side will go quickly)
-have multiple jacks on hand (especially if working alone)
-if you have a backhoe frame mounted. it will need to be removed from each side (just a few nuts and bolts)
-take advantage of having open access and clean your hydraulic screen filter and the center housing
-once you have the side housing off on each side, you will need to pop the bearing off before removing the gear to access the spring retaining ring/clip (removing and installing this clip was the most difficult part of the whole process)
