Mahindra 2538 HST
I have leaks on both rear tire axles. Repair manual is not very expletive. How much of a project is this considered? Should i even consider doing it myself or bring to shop? I have changed rear seal myself in the past. TIA

Sounds like you're not afraid to pick up a wrench. Good for you.

Don't know if this will help, but here's a schematic of the rear axle assembly. Part #10 is your axle seal. Doesn't look too awfully complicated. Trick is to have good jacks and support while working on it.

You may already have this, but just in case you don't...

Good luck! Just started tearing my 2538 down this weekend for the same issue. Limited info in the manual for sure.

Splitshot, any way you might have a part number? T.I.A.

My best advice is to call a Mahindra dealer and ask them for the part number. It should be a "standard" type seal, albeit metric.

If you can't get the number from a dealer, pull the seal and take it to someplace local, or online with all the measurements. Should be relatively inexpensive.

Edit: Dug a little deeper into the service manual, and there is no mention of a part number, just "replace with a new seal" for re-assembly, which tells me it is in fact, a standard seal.

Usually, these tractors have a two piece seal, which can be a bit tricky to source outside the dealers. They also tend to be on the expensive side.

Anyway, here is the part number for the rear axle seal, straight from Mahindra online parts catalog: 12383240040

12383240040 is the correct part number for the rear axle seal. It fit perfectly (right side complete).
