mahindra 2516 hst
New member. I purchased my first Mahindra last fall. I like the 2516 hst very much. loader/backhoe. I traded my Ford 1710 when I purchased the new tractor. Curious as to fuel economy others have seen. The 2516 seems to use more fuel then my 1710 did for the same type of usage. 85 hrs on the 2516. I'm not working the tractor hard, mostly snow removal from driveway. Any ideas of what kind of hrs/gal, etc I should be getting? Thanks in advance.

Hi 70Sum!

I have a 2816 which is very close to what you have. Fuel economy I feel on the 28 is great. It entirely depends on what I am doing with the tractor as to what my fuel economy is. It naturally burns more fuel when I bush hog or plow. Some say a gallon an hour is about the norm based on an 8 hour shift. I find that to be almost accurate, but there are times the tractor barely sips the fuel.

One thing to keep in mind is your fuel usage probably will be a little more in the winter than the summer depending on if you are running blended fuel, but it really is negligible.

I have a Max 22TLB and have never burnt a full tank in an 8 hour day.

Due to lower heat energy in winter blended fuel, you will suffer lower fuel economy and loss of engine power.

While plowing snow many machines use a lot of fuel. You have starting up the engine cold, running it hard to plow with, lower btu fuel, spinning tires etc. Are you comparing plowing snow with your previous ford and your Mahindra? Its hard to say what exactly your issue may be

I average about a gallon an hour on my Max25 when plowing snow. Like most have said, sometimes more sometimes less. But 1gph is a pretty good average estimate.

I've also found that i get sufficient power while plowing snow with my rpms down in the 1800-2000 range. Rarely does the engine struggle and it seemed to lower my consumption significantly.
