Mahindra 25 max hst
I have been trying to diagnose starting issues with a mahindra 25 max hst. Here is what I have done so far. Changed the ignition switch to a new one, check and changed a couple relays. Fixed a corroded connection to the battery terminal. With the switch in the on position I have dash lights for the glow plugs, but this light does not go out and the needle gauges do not move. Turning ignition to start tractor does nothing, it doesn’t try to turn over even with full charge on battery. I have gotten the tractor to turn over by jumping the starter but it would not stop by turning the ignition off just had to wait for the battery to die. All wires look good nothing chewed. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. This was my dad’s tractor that didn’t run when he passed and I’m starting from scratch trying to figure it out. Thanks.

Is it possible one of the safety switches isn't being satisfied? (seat, brake, PTO, etc)

Yeah it would be possible I’ve checked them all to make sure they engaging. But I don’t know what actually happens if one isn’t working weather the tractor will still turn over or if nothing happnens at all when ya turn the key.

You say you can jump the starter and get it to turn over. Then you turn the key off and it won't stop until the battery dies. Does that mean the starter keeps cranking until the battery dies? If you jumped the starter it's not affected by the key. You should never engage the starter for over twenty seconds or whatever the manufacturer recommends. It will overheat and you'll need to replace it. If you have not satisfied all the safeties the starter will not engage. If the engine has no fuel or air it will not start or run.

Yes it happened once I could not get it to stop turning over with the key. What you saying is if all the safety switches are not engaged nothing will happen when you turn the key? The tractor won’t even turn over?

Yes, if the safety switches aren't satisfied, the starter will not energize.

If I am understanding you correctly, you are saying if you put power directly to the starter, the starter energizes and starts the engine, but the starter will not de-energize even after removing the power jumper?

I'm not a big fan of playing swap-tronics unless you are using OEM parts and/or you know the components you are changing are bad. I've seen wrong relays be used, fuses put where they shouldn't go, etc.

The one time I did it the engine just turned over didn’t start. But the starter didn’t disengage using the key switch which is a new oem part. The relays I put back to the factory ones to see if the new ones were part of the problem and still having same issues. I’ve gone through most of the safety switches to bypass them and see if it would work with key and nothing. Only one I didn’t do was the clutch or neutral one. Unless I try to bypass them all possible there’s more then one that’s bad I guess.

Not sure if this helps but here’s a wiring diagram.
