Members: How many of you have successfully used this heater (tractor supply co.)? How does it work, where do you apply it on the engine? Does it heat the head or engine oil? If oil, will it break down the oil like the electric dipsticks? Please offer feedback for those days when the temp really drops. thanks bb

I have used this type of heater before with success. My favorite mounting position was under the oilpan. In that position, the heat rises towards the engine; the heat also serves to thin the oil and allow immediate lubrication upon startup. If you change the oil regularly, deterioration of lubricants should not be a problem.

I've used this type as well, but be careful not to let it drop into the snow when its fully hot. For the extra $15 I'd install a block heater instead and use synthetic oil.

I bought a magnetic heater from the Deere dealer and place it on the bottom of the oil pan, it works pretty well. I had the dipstick type previously and it didn't work that good.

At first, I bought a magnetic heater and stuck it to the oil pan. Then I forgot to remove it after unplugging it since it was a hassle getting underneath to remove it. I found it hanging by the cord many times so I installed an inline lower hose heater instead which works much better for me. So now I stick the magnetic heater on my metal fuel tank to keep it from gelling up. Both are plugged into timers. I usually plug them into the timers when below 30 deg F outside.

I use a magnetic heater that I attach to the oil pan of my BX1800. I also have a block heater. It is logical to believe they both help prevent injury to an engine started in the extreme cold we have here in Canada. Without them on the worst extreme cold days the engine could eventually start but not until you've almost burnt out the starter trying.
