I have a JD 5525 (75HP-PTO), 2wheel drive and need more power. Can't pull my 7' offset disk very well. I am looking at these models above. Am a weekend guy, mainly pulling 15' shredder and the 7' offset disk. Just don't know if I am getting much more power by moving to M9540? I guess if it had 4wheel dr., that would be a considerable difference that my present tractor. Or, do I need to go up to the M100X or M110X? I need help from you guys that know. I can only buy one more tractor before I retire.

Not to ask a stupid question but have you loaded the tires with fluid and put iron weights on your JD? I've never pulled a offset disc but with my disc here I know my tractor won't pull it worth a toot in 2wd but does fine in 4wd.

Yes, have lots of weight on back wheels. I have kicked myself for not buying a 4wheel drive every since I bought my tractor. I guess it really does make a huge diff.

You will especially want the 4WD on the Kubotas cuz they are lighter than the Deeres. But, I think that you will be very happy with a Kubota. I am currently looking at the M series tractors myself. I have priced the M9540 through the M135X. All I can say is get the most HP that your budget will allow and the best transmission for you. I have never run into anyone that had wished that they had got the smaller engine, be it in a tractor, truck, etc. Good Luck

I have the M9540 with cab. About 700 hours now and I pull a 15' shredder, 13' disc plow, 10' hay cutter, and a Vermeer 605 baler.
Four wheel drive and loaded tires. It handles everything very well and is economical on fuel.

The M9540 has been very reliable and I plan on keeping it for a long while.
I have not kept up on current prices but I seem to remember a big price jump to the next larger size.

Let us know what you find, we always like to see pictures:thumbsup:.

The M9540 is going to struggle with an offset disc. This is not a disc harrow that most people are used too. The 5535 is a very light JD, its similar to the Kubota 8540/9540 in weight and hp. The bigger M's would pull it fine, or a heavier tractor with the same hp of any brand.

I like the idea of the larger M-series! The standard features with the power shift as well as the hydraulics makes it nice!

Thanks for the thoughts. I will take a look at the larger M's and see how much more they cost.

I too am looking at a larger tractor in both Kubota and Deere. I will be trading my Kubota M8200 cab with FEL. I've driven the JD 5105M and Kubota M110X. Both are very nice tractors. I can get a way better deal on the M110X than the 5105M. Both are 4wd but the push-button intelli-shift on the M110 is really attractive and it weighs well over 10,000 lbs with loaded rears. Both the 5105M and M110X will handle your disc.

The 5105M seems to be hardly larger than an M8200/M9000, much like a M96S or 105S Kubota. The X Kubotas are quite a bit larger machine, up here a lot more money too.

JD spec for 5105M cab tractor is 8400 lbs. It will be over 10,000 lbs with loaded rear tires and much more with FEL.
Kubota spec for M110X cab is 9050 lbs w/o weighted rears.
Kubota spec for M8200 cab is 6040 lbs w/o weighted rears.

Well there you go, a lot heavier than the other 5000 series deeres I've looked at. M96S cab weighs 8660 pretty darned close and has similar transmission. The 108S cab is 9400 lbs.

Does anyone know if there would be any real difference in operating costs between a M9540 and M110X since the M110X does appear to be a much larger size tractor??

What often happens is that with the ability to go into a higher or lower gear easier and throttle down that it might equal out as far as the fuel consumption even with the slightly heavier chassis.

Just my :2cents: here. You do not need more power, you need to have 4 wheel drive and some weight and you will be fine. I have a (75hp) Mahindra 7520 4X4 ballasted to a little under 11,000lbs without the loader. I can pull my John Deere 8' offset disk with 22" blades no problem and I have R4s, not the R1 AG tires. I have pulled it with the axles buried on occasion. I have hills that I disk, so I pull my disk between 5-7 mph. If money is a concern, then look for a 75-80 hp 4X4 tractor that you can get ballasted up to 10,000lbs. ;)
