M7040 Tires

Check with ITHINKICAN and Builder as they have 7040's. Budcampo bought one, but traded it in on a track loader before he used it, so he may know.

Mine are either 10 or 12 ply, forget which, Firestones.

Wow! And those are stock right?

The stock R4's on my little L3710 are only 6 ply front and 8 in the rear.

I'll be purchasing a M7040 in the next few months and the reason I'm looking into this is, I'm worried that R1's would be softer and more prone to cut/puncher working in the woods than the optional R4's. I was surprised to find the 6 and 8 ply ratings on my current R4's, because I've never had a problem out of them and I've been in some real rough terrain. I thought they would have been rated higher. Maybe the R4's have a harder rubber compound than R1's?...

Thanks Triple.
How about your 8540?

I will have to check the next time I am at the other farm, just got back from there. They are the biggest my dealer could get, but I don't know the ply rating. I do know that this summer we mowed down saplings up to 4" and maybe a couple more and we didn't puncture our tires. I sure was concerned though and kept a close lookout for wet tires in my rear views.

This is the comparison between our CX80 on the right and M8540 on the left.

Thanks Triple. I wish the 7040 had tire options like the 8540, but according to the "build your own" section on the Kubota website, it doesn't. It will only let you select from cast or stamped rear wheels. I'd love to order it with 11.2 or 12.4 fronts with the highest ply I could get. I'm concerned about loader work and working in the woods. I could go with R4's, but I really don't want to because of the shortness and there for loss of ground clearance. Plus R1's just look better on the M's I think.

I went by my closest dealer on the way home to look for the ply rating on the 7040 he had on the lot, but it was gone.... I would have gone in and ask, but I don't plan on buying from them and figured it wouldn't be right.

Country1, I know what you mean, there isn't much to choose from on the 7040. It is really a good tractor and I looked at one before we bought our M8540, but I just wanted more than the M7040 offered such as the 12F/12R transmission. We were also replacing an 80 HP machine and I was concerned about the power as we were/are running a Woods DS1260 rotary cutter in really tough going up hills.

Are you getting the M7040 SU or Deluxe?

6 ply rating.

On the new [still belongs to dealer] M7040 HDC-1 sitting in my barnyard, tires are Firestone Titan R-1, 9.5x24 and 16.9x30.

If you have pricing advice, please see my post in that section.

I'm getting the Deluxe (M7040HDC-1). I was looking at the M8540 for the same reasons you bought (more options), but it's really just too big for my needs. I love to have a need for it (or the M9540 for that matter) though.

The tire thing really isn't that big of a deal. I'm just all psyched up about buying a new Kubota and love thinking, posting and reading about them. Might as well enjoy it. The research and anticipation of purchase is a lot of fun. So excuse my ramblings and possible silly questions. I'm under the influence of new tractor fever....:confused2:
