Thinking about buyin a new 7040 and was wondering if it will handle a 10' IH 37 disk with 18" blades? It will be pulled in hard clay soil that has been plowed. Also do you guys thing it will not strugle with a 8' lift type cutter. In heavy brush and grass as tall as the tractor. I don't want to work it to death and wish I would have bought a 85 or 95.

do you have tractor requirement specs for the disc? cat 1 or2? I'd say there are 2 biggies for a 7040, the implement weight and HP requirement. remember, 3 pt. specs on a tractor are from 24" out, the disc will project a lot more. assume you're considering 4wd.

sorry can't really specifically answer your question, but do know the 85/9540 HD 12 sp. trans. is rated @ 7k+ on the 3 pt. whereas the 7040 is i think slightly under 3k. if you're considering an implement that big you may look @ the 85/95 model to grow with future needs in the field.

there's a section in the owners manual of each model that gives limits for various implements: plow, b'hog, disc, etc. am sure your dealer would let you review when looking @ a given model.

I would think that to go to the 8540 or 9540 and they would be to much! The 7040 should handle every thing you have said that you will have to do.

Builder pulls a MX8 with his M7040 as well as some other stuff including a nice flail mower.

We have a Woods DS1260, so we went with the M8540, so I don't really know the capabilities of the 7040. The people who own them seem to be satisfied.

I don't know about the disk either. The reasons I am wanting a lift type cutter where I can drive on and off my trailer easier and mow food plots in tight areas.

I'm currently pulling a 13' John Deere BW disc with my M7040.
In rocky NY loam it pulls fine even at its most aggressive setting. I believe the discs on it are 18" units. I've pulled it thru unworked pasture land to break it up for reseeding, 7040 pulled it fine in 3rd low range (I think it would have done it in 4th but it would have been a rough ride).

I also use a 3-16 trailer plow and can pull it in 3rd low on unbroken ground.
4th low plows fine on previously tilled land.

We use a 6' rotary cutter with no problem. I'm not sure about a 3pt larger one. I'd probably look to a trailer style for bigger diameters with a 7040.

We have a 3-point Woods 121 10' rotary cutter we have used for years with our 80 HP CX80 and had no trouble with transporting or use.

We now use a Woods DS1260 pull type as we needed a heavier duty cutter and the weight difference between the two is significant and our CXase would not lift it.

I really don't think an 8' on a M7040 would be a problem.

I use a pretty heavy duty LP RCR2672 on my L5030.

I would think the 7040 will have plenty of HP to use either implement. The question is whether or not the 7040 has enough weight on the front end to keep it from getting light. The 7040 has enough HP to use a 10-ft pull type rotary cutter as long as the material is not TOO thick or overgrown.

The M7040 should handle your requirements without a problem. Be sure to get filled R1 tires and/or cast rims.

I only have an 8' tandem disc and a 6' mower but the M7040 handles them like they aren't there.

The front can get pretty light when the rears dig in so a FEL or front weights are advised.
