Can anyone explain the major differences - I know how to read the spec sheet and compare that way - but since I've never owned a tractor - all that info is greek to me...

Is one more nimble than the other? Better resale? Less likely to tip over if used incorrectly by a newbie?

We intend to mow pasture and maintain an mx/atv track for our kids.

We are price sensitive - will the 5040 be more competitive on pricing? It appears the 5640 is a newer model.

We are familiar with new model issues - does the 5040 have all the kinks worked out vs the 5640 going through growing pains?

Thank you!

The 5040 is a full feaured tractor with hydraulic or manual shuttle available as well as a fully syncronized transmission which is a big plus over just 3/4 shift.

The engine is also larger on the 5040 and my guess would be the torque rise would be greater and under load might equal the higher horsepower smaller engine.

Thank you. I appreciate the assistance.

It is looking like the 5040 will better suit our needs. Plus we can get a cab :cool2:
