That is the package I'm about to buy,M5040 w/FEL and 10' hog. I'm thinking 24' goose neck lowboy without rails. Looking for some input and trailer details that should not be overlooked. I will be making 2 trips per year of 800 miles round trip other than that I will be local. Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

Unless the 'hog folds up your gonna be overwidth by a foot and a half.
8ft6in is max width of payload to be transported without permit.

Hard to make a recommendation without knowing much about that 10 foot "hog". The trailer will have to be long enough to contain the tractor, FEL and cutter between the front end and the ramps. I'm sure the 24 is about the right length. Hauling a 10 foot cutter two 800 mile round trips a year? You may do well to hire that work out to a local.

Can the hog be unhitched and tirned sideways to travel at less than 10' wide? Since this is a multi spindle cutter it will not be ten feet long.

To compare, my little 30HP tractor, loader, and 5' hog hangs about 3 feet off the back of an 18' trailer. I think you would be better off with a longer trailer.

Out in my area, a "low boy" means something different than a bumper pull trailer. Do you mean a car hauler style trailer vs. a flat bed style? The fenders sticking up will make loading that huge hog even harder.

Don't know about the 10' hog width but 24' should plenty long. I haul my 5400 Deere on a 24' with grapple and splitter on the back with lots to spare front and back.

What he said.

And really a 10' wide bushhog is really about 10'6" wide.
You'll need an oversize permit to haul it anywhere.

The biggest bushhog you can buy and be able to transport hooked up is an 8' cutter.

I have a Kubota M5400, which is the generation before the M5040. I haul it on a " North Alabama Mfg." 8 x 20 + 5 gooseneck trailer with two 7K axles. Bush Hog is a Kodiak twin spindle heavy duty 8 footer, which is actually 8 ft. 4.5 inches wide. Truck is a 1999 F-250 long bed 4x4 with the 7.3L Powerstroke engine. Truck has Michelin load range "E" tires, with Firestone Ride-rite air bags. Tows and handles like a dream. Plenty of room for a FEL.

I'll quit typing and give you some pics.

In the pics the airbags only have about 40 psi in them. I can go up to 70 psi and level the truck a little more.

If you have questions let me know.

I have an M4900 with a loader and a Woods BB720 6' cutter. When loaded on my 20' 14K trailer the bucket rests on the front rail (hangs over a bit) and the cutter sticks off the back 2-3 feet.

Go out and buy a used 32' gooseneck including a 5' dovetail and be done with it,
