M4900 Opinions & Price Check

I'm in the market for a ~50 hp utility tractor to maintain roads, firebreaks, and food plots on a timber tract. I originally was heading towards Deere 5055E, then figured out MX5100 would probably do just fine for less $ (looking at new in both cases).

Now I've run across an M4900 4wd with FEL and 190 hours on it for half the cost of new. It has higher 3 point capability than MX5100 and seems close to the M5140 I'd really like to buy.

Any opinions on the durability of the M4900 or ballpark fair price with loader?

Not sure about the price, but I have had a 4900 since 2006. Not one single issue. I too considered the 5100, but I am glad I went with the M series.

Can't help you with price but my dad bought our m4900 new in 2001 (i think), has ~1200 hours on it now. It is 2wd with the LA1002 loader. Other than having to replace the fan belt a couple times, we have done nothing but fluid changes, batteries and hydraulic hoses. Mostly used for dirt work, mowing and moving/loading round bales of hay. The back end is pretty light, have to be mindful and use counterweight if I'm doing any real lifting with the loader. Other than being 2wd, I can't say there's much to complain about with ours. It's been used pretty hard and never given us much grief.

The M4900 weighs about 500 more than the MX5x00's - more tractor for your money. With only 190 hours it's still brand new. If memory serves the M4900's engine is the F2803 5-cylinder - smooth as silk.

I have a M 6800 which is just a little bigger than what you are looking. I use it for the same purpose as you mentioned. It is awesome. No problems at all
