Kubota m6040
I was wondering if anyone has or knows where I can get a simple schematic of the fuel system of my new to me m6040. The previous owner put a large hole in the bottom of the tank, way overtightened fuel filters, bypassed the water separator, threw a couple of plastic in-line filters on the return line from the IP, and right before I bought it he replaced the lift pump. Im trying my best to get the quirks out of it so I can start to make my money back by spring. Any help would be greatly apprecieated.

I don't think there is a schematic anywhere just the pics in the manuals. I'd think if you have a local dealer maybe you could pick up a operators manual from them. I'd think it will come in handy for more than just the fuel system problems. The OM isn't all that expensive, I've seen one somewhere in memory about $10, either dealer or ebay.......

"Ok to start from the very beginning for you"

"The basic indirect injection fuel system for a diesel engine has"

1. fuel tank
2. fuel suction line which pulls the diesel fuel to the filter
3. the fuel leaves the filter and is pulled to the injection pump
4. the fuel is pumped to the common fuel line pumping diesel fuel to the
cylinders and any fuel not consumed is pumped back to the tank with the
return fuel line to tank.

As they obviously did not tank care of the fuel, fuel tank and fuel delivery system I would suggest very strongly you replace the fuel tank and the fuel tubing first and install a Racor diesel fuel water separator either at the tank storage or physically mount a Racor filter with thermostat controlled fuel heater element on the tractor to solve this.

You may have a bad fuel shut down solenoid, torn lift pump diaphram, damaged manual priming pump etc.................., as well.

If you dont fix it right there is no point.....

fuel shut off solenoid, could be it I delt with something similar in my diesel pickup. the tractor has a brand new lift pump, cause the previous owner suspected the last one was torn. what could have done that? and could it have happened again within 15 or so operating hours? I also have a brand new manual priming pump but I havent put it on as I have nop reason yet to suspectr that the one on the tractor is bad. What could be in my tank/ lines that would make replacing the tank and lines the solution?

Edit: you could have a huge layer of water, dirt and algae that would be impossible to deal with other wise and the sediment which is algae waste is corrosive for metals.

You should purchase a fuel funnel with a strainer at least as they are not installing strainer baskets in the tank necks UGHH!!!!

Operating hours are what destroys fuel pump diaphrams, Locking Piston Type priming pumps simply wear out as they are not used to pump while operating, and if the fuel is full of water that only adds to the damage.

If they messed with the tank and added those filters-

I would change them out by throwing them out and installing a new tank, Racor filter and the Racor fuel tubing of the that size. If you buy 20 feet of it you should have plenty and extra left over as you do not now what they did or did not do as I discussed earlier.

PLUS the issue of the tank with the plastic weld repair would definitely want me to rip it and the fuel lines out~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You cannot help the fact that they did not know what they were doing
except by replacing the suction line and return line this is your first defense!!!!

The Racor 500FG filter with the automatic thermostat control is going to save you a lot of aggravation and money and eliminate water and algae entering your injection pump because of the "aquabloc" filter element- You dont want deal with purchasing a replacement injection pump if you want to make money this year.

You will have many trouble free hours with that filter unit and you will be able drain the water and crud every day as it will settle out in the bottom of the clear plastic bowl where the Optional fuel heating element and thermostatic are located.

I simply want you to work smarter not harder because I have been there.

Go to Messicks site...
Look at the parts layout and description.
Replace any that are not there.
Discard anything not on the OEM list.
Your are done with out replacing anything that is still functional. KennyV

I had a power loss problem on my M4900. It would act as if the fuel filter was plugged. Change filter and bleed system but still lacked power. Turns out dirt dobbers stopped up fuel tank vent tube that is located behind engine on my M4900. Cleaned vent tube and it regained it's power. I agree on the Messicks website for schematics as they are great people to do business with. It will be nice if Kubota ever catches up with Deere & CNH and posts their parts schematics on the net.
